Cokin Filterfast

To the digital photographer filters are things you use in Photoshop, rather than things you use on the front of your lens. But it's often quicker and easier to get the effect you're after by simply putting a filter over the lens rather than spending an hour perfecting your shot on the computer.

Fitting filters to a compact camera is difficult though. Very few models have a thread to mount a screw-in type or attach an adapter ring for the square filter systems. This neat little device from Cokin allows compact camera users to use any A series (67mm) square filter onto virtually any camera, compact or otherwise.

It screws into the tripod thread on the bottom of the camera, and with a little adjustment to position the holder you just slot the required filter into the guides. On a digital compact camera the LCD screen shows you the exact effect you'll get.
